Cold and ill

The weather has turned cold, which on the positive side means one can hide indoors in front of a roaring fire and eat lots (last night’s sausage and mash with red onion gravy and steamed lemon courgettes turned out pretty well), but on the negative side means it’s the season for colds and sniffles. The baby now has a full-blown lurgy of some description, which has caused some disturbed nights, a battle to get her to eat or drink anything and general unhappiness, which is a bit weird as she’s normally such a chirpy soul.

I’m also stuck in a rather cold attic office; somehow I need to figure out a cheap and cheerful way of insulating the room a bit better; the old insulation between the house and roofspace stops a lot of heat getting here in the first place, but I’m pretty sure when the room was converted that not a lot was done to insulate the pitched roof. Suggestions welcome!

Babysitting

Spent my first full day looking after our daughter, now she’s taking enough solid food that she doesn’t need Mum. It’s surprising quite how much I’ve got done in between amusing, feeding, changing etc.: and it’s been quite a grumpy day due to a combination of a slight cold, falling over and headbutting a small plastic cube and lack of long naps.

I’m unsure how long I’ll be able to do this though, as she grows up and needs more attention; even at six months she’s not moving about much, and sleeps for a good part of the day. I’m pretty sure my wireless keyboard, flat panel TV at floor level and mobile phone would all provide much amusement for a toddler.

In other news, I’ve been involved in setting up a coworking space for Cambridge. Seems to be moving really quickly – we should have a space available by next week, and we only started talking last Tuesday!

Phone trouble ended

Turns out that the way to get things done is to use the eForum, not the shop! Received a brand new E90 Communicator today from Vodafone. A very, very clever device: GPS, two cameras, Wifi…but more importantly, a proper keyboard. Most satisfied.

In other news…managed to get very little sleep on Tuesday night due to both beer and falling asleep in front of the US Election. Exciting stuff…but it all seems very familiar, it’s like 1997 all over again – when will the optimism fade?
